Sow and cub grizzlies will avoid big male bears and typically will not be seen when other bears are in the area

Proceed with Caution North Southern AlbertaCoastal British Columbia This mother grizzly was out fishing in the rain with her cub. The cub would likely be referred to by researchers as a COY which stands for cub of the year The mother was aware of our presence and although we were careful to maintain a safe and respectful distance, she seemed to be uncomfortable. She positioned herself between us and her cub as if to tell us that we were close enough.
