It has a carbon coated friction surface for higher heat and wear resistance compared to the standard machined brass friction surface. Recommended for high performance applications. A worn synchronizer will result in a crunchy or grinding shift which may be more pronounced when the oil is warm. Subaru transmissions are very finicky when it comes to gear oil selection.
