Description

tested as 15ct gold (chain is 9ct gold)

The dark stone contrasts wonderfully with the bright gold of the band and displays incredibly sharp chatoyancy - the cat's eye effect whereby a line of light appears to glow just beneath the stone's surface

It's set with a vivid red pyrope garnet in a simple collet mount with a thin gold band

tested as silver with 15ct gold ear wires

1920s Bakelite Butterfly Earrings engagement rings tested as 15ct gold (chainDelightful antique earrings modelled as bright orange butterflies with pique style precious metal and mother of pearl inlays. The material is bakelite which, at the time they were made in the 1920s, was a new and exciting material that jewellers quickly adopted to produce beads and the like. I've never seen bakelite butterflies, and rather suspect that whomever made these was used to working with naturally occurring thermoplastics like tortoiseshell
