Local legend tells of John Paul Radelmuller, the first of Gibraltar Points keepers and beer bootlegger. Radelmuller was murdered by soldiers from nearby Fort York during a drunken dispute over his bootlegged beer. His body was chopped up and hidden by the soldiers.
